Myrrh is the air-dried oleo-gum resin that exudes from the bark of the plant. The plant is a shrub or small tree with large, sharply pointed thorns on the stem. When damaged, the resin ducts yield myrrh which dries into irregular, rounded lumps. The surface of the lumps is a dusty gray and the interior is a translucent yellow to brown.
